Formal Wear

Business Tips What Should Your Employees Wear Casual vs. Formal Approach by Josh Stone

There are many factors that come into play when you are trying to decide whether you think that your business would be best suited towards a strictly formal wear approach, or a more casual wear approach. Many businesses tend to look at their competition for some help in deciding exactly what they need in order to make the best choice, but at the same time you need to look at your own business to help really give you the best advice possible.

If you are running a business that is very laid back you could consider using T-shirts that are embroidered or screen-printed, or even for a slightly more formal approach a polo shirt is a great option. Moving even higher up the scale in terms of formality you could even choose a simple button up shirt. As you can see, choosing casual does not mean that you can only use t-shirts and jeans. You are free to use polo shirts as well which can provide a very professional yet casual appearance as well.

If you are looking for a professional approach without crossing all of the way over to formal wear, you could reduce the jacket and just use a nice button up shirt with a tie and nice dress pants. This would still provide a nice dressy appearance for your staff, without having them overdressed if some of your customers tend to shy away from that type of appearance. Many times your customer base will play a large role in the type of uniforms that you will select.

As an example, consider that you are going to the mall to do a bit of shopping. You see a Chanel store, (we will over look that they are not actually located in the mall) and you also see a Pac Sun. In the Chanel store, you would expect to be greeted by sales staff that are all very sharply dressed. However, just around the corner or even next door at the Pac Sun, you would expect to find a much more casual approach. In fact, if the employees at the two stores switched for a day, including uniforms it would completely throw off the clientele.

This is a classic example of how your clientele will alter your uniform decisions. An upscale business is expected to look more formal, while a business that is geared more towards a casual lifestyle is considered to be much more casual, even in uniforms. These are some small guidelines that can help you to make the best decision possible when it comes to selecting uniforms for your business.
